Researching Super-Diversity

Prof. Dr. Steven Vertovec | Vortrag Zeit: 16.05.2012
Veranstaltungsort: U4-120

The notion of 'super-diversity' entails a call to re-consider concepts, research methods and policies surrounding diversity by moving away from an ethno-/racial focus and adopting a multi-dimensional approach. The term is also meant to call attention to, and begin to describe, a number of changes in global migration patterns over the past three decades. Since it was first coined in 2006, the 'super-diversity' concept and its related methodology have been gaining widespread attention in social science, public debate and policy -- particularly in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. In this talk, I will (a) reiterate how and why the term was conceived, (b) explore how the term has been taken up in academia and public debate, and (c) point to further ways the notion might be developed in theory, research and methods.
